Weather at the finish city of Como at 2:45 PM, local time: 19C (66F), partly cloudy with the wind from the south at 5 km/hr (3 mph). There is just a 2% chance of rain. There was light rain in Bergamo at the start and early in the race the roads were wet.

Before the Race: The riders staged a protest, delaying the race for five minutes. Remco Evenpoel took a microphone and made the following statement:

“I will speak in English in the name of the whole bunch and not only the guys who are here but everyone in pro cycling. We want to make this statement because there's too many incidents happening with vehicles in the race. Unfortunately we lost the life of a brother and of a colleague of us, so we want to make this statement to show to the world that we cannot keep accepting the fact that guys are getting injured or literally dying in what we like the most to do.

"So this is why we want to spend five minutes more still to make our statement towards organizations, to the public, to everybody that is following cycling, because we cannot accept the fact that people are dying. This is why we stand still, we pay our tribute and respect to all the riders who are already involved in incidents.

"To the organizers who organize races in the future, please make sure that we can race safely, and that we can just do what we like to do without being worried about cars, motorbikes, all that stuff, coming into the course."

Here is the text of the riders’ organization statement:
"As riders, we stand united against the unnecessary risk our lives are being subjected to.

"This week alone, there were multiple incidents of vehicles on race courses," the statement reads. "Two riders crashed when they hit a motorbike who was driving the wrong way on the race route. Luckily both escaped with cuts and bruises, it could have been so much worse.

"This summer, a life was tragically lost to exactly this kind of failure. We will not stand for this any longer.

"We call upon all race organizers to fulfill their duty of care. No vehicle should ever enter a closed race route unless it is strictly controlled and deemed absolutely necessary for the safety or running of the race.

"Furthermore, we demand immediate accountability for those who compromise our safety. The CPA, teams, and riders will now actively report all course vehicle violations.

"We cannot accept the fact that people are dying. The sport has to change now."

The race: Winner Paul Seixas' Team Decathlon CMA CGM posted this:

Paul Seixas: “It’s incredible—I still can’t believe it. The team did a fantastic job. Everyone gave more than was expected of them. I trained hard to get here in top shape. I felt great at the start; I told myself it could be a good day. I managed to make my move exactly when I wanted to by setting a fast pace right from the base of the Civiglio climb, then pacing myself very well on the steepest section. At the summit, the gap was good but not big enough to think about winning, so I rode as fast as I possibly could all the way to the finish. I was competing against myself—it was crazy. I started to believe it at the top of the final climb, being careful not to make any mistakes. It’s indescribable—like a dream. I’m going to take some time to let it sink in.”

The news: A First Monument for DECATHLON CMA CGM and Paul Seixas
After making a difference in the climb up Civiglio, Paul Seixas continued his solo effort over the final kilometers of the Fall Classic to claim victory. Having already finished second in Liège-Bastogne-Liège earlier in the season, he wins at age 20 his first Monument of his career at the Tour of Lombardy. It was also the first Monument in the team’s history.

As the youngest rider to start the 2026 edition of the Lombardy Tour, Paul Seixas is also the race’s youngest winner since 1905.
